The previous system had reached the end of its useful life, and the new system will enhance our ability to securely manage access to the facilities. At each gate and door throughout the property you will find a new key card reader in addition to the older readers. We are transitioning to a new key card access system. The new system is only compatible with the new cards, and the old cards work only on the old system.

Access Changes
There have been some improvements to the way we manage access to the ranges. For years, we have required qualifications to use the Pistol and Rifle ranges. Thanks to good record keeping by each committee, these qualifications are now being used to grant permission to the appropriate ranges. If you scan your membership card under the TV in the clubhouse entranceway, you will see your current membership status and your access to all ranges and buildings. If you have any questions or corrections to your range qualifications, you will need to reach out to the Rifle and Pistol chairmen. They can be emailed at pistol@lprgc.org and rifle@lprgc.org

Which reader to use?

In all door and gate locations, you can find both the old and new key card readers. The new readers look much more modern, with video displays and better enclosures. The new key cards take a little longer to scan, and need to be held in the right spot on the reader. You can see the orange sticker on the new reader, which is where you want to hold the new card to scan it reliably.

New Key Cards
The new key card readers only work with new key cards. We have placed target stickers on the reader to make it easier to position the membership cards. You need to hold the key card against the reader for 2-3 seconds for it to fully read the card and grant access. If you remove the key card from the reader too quickly, it will ask you to re-try the card scan. New key cards with the Betsy Ross flag only work on the new key card readers

Old Key Cards
Old key cards only work on the older HID readers. These will continue to work for several months while we transition to the new system. Old key cards with the hole punched in the top and the modern American Flag background only work on the old key card readers.

Card Mailings
Cards are being mailed in the chronological order that people confirmed their mailing addresses and submitted a photo.

First 50 Cards – Mailed June 28
Batch #2 – Cards 50-1000 – Mailed July 6, 2026
Batch #3 – Cards 1000-1700 – Mailed on July 13, 2026
Batch #4 – Cards 1700-2100 – Mailed on July 26, 2026
July 28-August TBD – Daily mailings to all confirmed addresses
Batch #5 – Any remaining and to-be-printed cards without confirmed addresses – TBD

Note: It is not possible for me to individually notify you when your card is mailed or to provide status updates via email at this time. We have 2400 cards to print and mail, and the focus is completing the project, not dealing with individual questions or issues at this point. Please keep an eye out for the mailing, and at some point you may receive a more definitive update as mailings progress. Once all cards have been mailed, further communication will be sent out to the entire club.

As of May 2026, new readers have been installed in the Archery building Clubhouse, and vehicle gates.

Known Issues

The Archery Center key card reader is malfunctioning. Replacement parts have been ordered, and the issue should be resolved within a week. The old key card reader continues to work; please use your old key card to access the Archery building.

Location

Upgrade Status

Archery Center

Complete, Fixed reader issues

Clubhouse Main Entrance

Complete

Dr. Paul Good Indoor Range

Complete

New Indoor Range

Complete

Egypt Gate

Complete

Pinetown Gate

Complete

Rifle Range

Complete

Bay 6

Complete

Outdoor Pistol Range

Complete

New Key Cards

We began printing and mailing new key cards in June. Before printing key cards, members will be asked to confirm or update their mailing address and provide a recent headshot photo. You will receive an email requesting this information, and we will begin printing and shipping cards based on the order that we receive responses. If you do not wish to provide a photo, your card will be printed using either the photo we have on file, or without a photo.

Current/Old Key Cards

The existing key cards will be deactivated once all current members have received their new key cards. This will likely be in August or September 2026, depending on the time that it takes to collect, verify, print, and mail all 2400 new membership cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you please confirm that you received my edits and photo?
A: No, this needs to be self-service by you. If the information and photo show up on the contact page, then you are good to go. I can’t answer hundreds of emails confirming things.

Q: Can I email you my photo and current address? Can I hand you a physical photo for you to scan in to the system for me?
A: No, this needs to be self-service by you. If the information and photo show up on the contact page, then you are good to go. I can’t answer hundreds of emails or scan hundreds of photos of people. Please help me to focus on the overall project and not special handling of requests. Thank you very much!

Q: Can I pick up my membership card from you in person?
A: No, that is not possible.

Q: How will I know when my new card has been mailed?
A: I’ll do my best to keep people informed via email, but the current focus is printing and mailing the cards.

Q; Which key card should I use?
A: Use the new key card as soon as you receive it. All ranges and buildings will have new readers before the cards are distributed. Your old key card will remain active for a period of time, but not indefinitely.

Q: How can I know which key card reader to use?
A: The new readers have electronic displays integrated in them and look much “newer”. The new key cards work on the new readers, and the old cards work on the old readers. Key cards do not work between systems.

Q: What should I do with my old key card?
A: You can keep it, but it will not work once the old system is shut off. We will not be collecting old cards, you can also throw it out.

Q: Does the new system support phone-based credentials?
A: Yes, however we are focused on replacing the old key cards first. Once that is complete, the board may choose to enable additional features of the system.

Q: How can I tell the new key cards apart?
A: The new cards have range hours printed on the back side, and feature the Betsy Ross version of the American Flag.

During 2026, LPRGC is replacing its door access system and key cards.
