{"id":8,"date":"2011-09-20T21:14:38","date_gmt":"2011-09-21T02:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lprgc.org\/new\/?page_id=8"},"modified":"2026-10-24T20:41:48","modified_gmt":"2026-10-25T00:41:48","slug":"riflecmp","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lprgc.org\/?page_id=8","title":{"rendered":"Rifle"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Qualification Process:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Rifle Range qualification procedure is a 2 part process that includes a range-specific Orientation to the 100 Yard Range and a shooting qualification portion using a course of fire described below.\u00a0 Both parts of the process must be completed to obtain a Rifle Range qualification card.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Both of the steps to the 100 Yard Range Qualification Process take place on the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">4th Saturday of every month<\/span>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The 100 Yard Range Orientation takes place at 8AM sharp\u00a0on the 100 Yard Range.\u00a0 There is no shooting component to the Orientation- you do not need to bring anything to attend the Orientation<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Rifle Range Shooting Qualification takes place starting at 8:30AM\u00a0on the 100 Yard Range.\u00a0 You MUST have completed the 100 Yard Range Orientation portion of the process to attend the Rifle Shooting Qualification event.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Range Qualification Procedure<\/h4>\n<p>In order to qualify to use the 100 Yard Range, you will need to demonstrate safe gun handling skills and participate in a 100 Yard Range Orientation (a range-specific Orientation that is different from the Club General Orientation on the second Thursday of the month).\u00a0 As described above, the 100 Yard Range Orientation and Shooting Qualification are separate steps in obtaining the range certification card.<\/p>\n<p>After completing the 100 Yard Range Orientation, you will need to bring a rifle in a case and enough ammunition to qualify. \u00a0We recommend that each member bring 40-50 rounds of ammunition. \u00a0NRA SR1 100-yard targets will be provided. \u00a0Bring your rifle in a case to the range. \u00a0An instructor will work with you to help you get set up safely and review any rifle operation questions you may have. \u00a0After zeroing your rifle (if needed), the course of fire to qualify will be 10 shots on the SR1 target at 100 yards, fired in 2 strings of 5 shots.\u00a0 After the first 5 shot string, you will unload and show your Instructor a clear rifle.\u00a0 On their go-ahead, you will reload and fire the second 5 shot string, unloading and showing clear again after completion of that string.\u00a0 A minimum score of 50 is required to pass the qualification.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Multi-Position Qualification<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The Multi-Position qualification allows members to shoot rifles from standing, seated, kneeling, and prone positions using the bay on the left hand side of the 100 Yard Range or to use these positions on the 25yd or the Indoor ranges (with .22LR or PCC firearms).<\/p>\n<p>In order to be eligible for the Multi-Position qualification, you <strong>must<\/strong> have completed NRA Basic Rifle.\u00a0 You will then be eligible to attend our monthly Multi-Position practice sessions, held on the 4th Saturday of each month (check Club Calendar for time).\u00a0 You must complete <strong>at least<\/strong> 2 practice sessions and receive approval from an Instructor present at the practice sessions to take the Multi-Position test.\u00a0 That test consists of a 30 minute briefing and shooting qualification that emphasizes safe gun handling, rigid adherence to safety protocols, and a high degree of accuracy in each position.<\/p>\n<p>Classes taken at other locations are only accepted if approved by the Rifle Chairman. \u00a0Eligible members may qualify during the rifle qualification or via prior arrangement with the Rifle Chair.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify, members must place 10\/10 rounds on a steel gong target from each position they wish to shoot from, and demonstrate safe rifle handling while at the firing line.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Frequently Asked Questions<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Can I use a .22lr rifle to qualify?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Yes. \u00a0If you own a higher caliber rifle, please bring it instead. \u00a0We want to be sure that you can safely handle your firearm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a &#8220;largest caliber&#8221; restriction like the indoor range?<br \/>\n<\/strong>No. \u00a0Once you are qualified to use the outdoor range, you may shoot any caliber allowed under the 100 yard range rules.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I use a Pistol on the 100 yard range without qualifying?<\/strong><br \/>\nUse of handguns on the 100 yard range is restricted to those approved by the Rifle Chairman.\u00a0 AR-style pistols or pistols that shoot\u00a0 center fire rifle rounds <strong>MUST<\/strong> be shot at the 100 yard range.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I shoot my Pistol at 25 yards on the 100 Yard Range?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No, unless the pistol fires center fire rifle rounds or is approved for use on the 100 Yard Range by the Rifle Chairman.\u00a0 Any other pistols using pistol rounds must be shot on the 25 Yard Range or the indoor ranges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I qualify at a different time?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Please contact the Rifle Chairman to make arrangements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What should I bring?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Bring your rifle in a case, 40-50 rounds of ammunition, and eye &amp; Committee took the opportunity presented by the extended range closure to make improvements in other places too!\u00a0 Gone are the old, outdated shooting benches- they&#8217;ve been replaced by custom-built center console benches much like the one that got good reviews in Position 5.\u00a0 Additionally, work on the berms has proceeded very well- the main impact berm has had several feet of screened soil laid over it, and earthen berms have been erected in front of the 25 and 50 yard target boxes.\u00a0 This should present a firing solution that reduces the risk of a skip or ricochet off of a hard surface.\u00a0 See the pics below for the new look!<\/p>\n<p><b>UPDATE 9\/9\/23:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Well, thanks to all of the volunteers who came out, to Liberato Steel for their on-schedule delivery and problem solving, to APM Construction for their fine work, and to leaders like Chris Keebler, the project was completed on 9\/9\/23- right on schedule!\u00a0 The Range was re-opened for use Saturday afternoon, and we sure are happy with the results!\u00a0 LPRGC is driven by it&#8217;s volunteers- we literally couldn&#8217;t do it without you all- thanks again for coming out to
