It runs for\n    eight weeks, one hour a week, on the club&#8217;s climate-controlled indoor range, so a\n    session runs start to finish whatever the weather is doing.<\/p>\n\n    <p>It is a class for first-time archers. Young people who have already completed an\n    intro class at the club are not eligible to take it again &mdash; if that&#8217;s you,\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/lprgc.org\/?page_id=6955\">JOAD<\/a> is the next step.<\/p>\n\n    <p>It&#8217;s built on USA Archery&#8217;s <em>Explore Archery<\/em> program. That means one skill\n    per week, taught in order, each building on the last: safety and stance first, then\n    nocking, draw, anchor, aiming, release. By week seven an archer is shooting a scored\n    round and knows how to keep score.<\/p>\n\n    <p>No experience is needed. Archers shoot club bows and arrows, sized to them on the\n    first night, so there is nothing to buy before the first class. Most families do the\n    whole eight weeks before deciding whether archery is something their kid wants to\n    carry on with.<\/p>\n  <\/section>\n\n  <!-- ===== THE EIGHT WEEKS ===== -->\n  <section>\n    <span class=\"ia-eyebrow\">Week by week<\/span>\n    <h2>What gets taught, and when<\/h2>\n\n    <p>Every class is at 10 yards. New archers shoot on the very first night &mdash;\n    coaches set stance and grip and walk each student through their first shots\n    hand&#8209;over&#8209;hand, so nobody spends week one listening to a lecture.<\/p>\n\n    <ol class=\"ia-steps\">\n      <li><span class=\"ia-wk\">Wk 1<\/span><span><strong>Safety, stance and grip.<\/strong> Range rules, whistle commands, safe bow handling, an athletic stance and a relaxed bow hand &mdash; then first arrows.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><span class=\"ia-wk\">Wk 2<\/span><span><strong>Nocking and the pre-shot routine.<\/strong> The parts of the bow and arrow, nocking correctly, and building the same setup before every shot.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><span class=\"ia-wk\">Wk 3<\/span><span><strong>Draw and anchor.<\/strong> A smooth draw, a consistent anchor point, and strong posture through it.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><span class=\"ia-wk\">Wk 4<\/span><span><strong>Equipment care and form check.<\/strong> Looking after bows, arrows, strings and tabs, plus individual coach form checks on everything so far.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><span class=\"ia-wk\">Wk 5<\/span><span><strong>Aiming.<\/strong> Target focus, sight picture, and holding anchor while aiming.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><span class=\"ia-wk\">Wk 6<\/span><span><strong>Release and follow&#8209;through.<\/strong> A relaxed release, following through, and watching the arrow to the target.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><span class=\"ia-wk\">Wk 7<\/span><span><strong>Putting it all together.<\/strong> The complete shot, self&#8209;correction, scoring a round and tournament etiquette &mdash; finishing with a mini tournament.<\/span><\/li>\n      <li><span class=\"ia-wk\">Wk 8<\/span><span><strong>Balloon Bonanza.<\/strong> Balloon targets, team challenges, a closest&#8209;to&#8209;the&#8209;center shoot&#8209;off, certificates and awards.<\/span><\/li>\n    <\/ol>\n  <\/section>\n\n  <!-- ===== ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS ===== -->\n  <section class=\"ia-callout\">\n    <span class=\"ia-eyebrow\">Something to take home<\/span>\n    <h2>Five achievement awards<\/h2>\n\n    <p>The class is registered with USA Archery&#8217;s Explore Archery program, so archers earn\n    official achievement awards as they go &mdash; one for each fundamental skill, handed\n    out in class the night it&#8217;s earned rather than saved up for the end.<\/p>\n\n    <ul class=\"ia-awards\">\n      <li><strong>Safety<\/strong> &mdash; safe range behavior: whistle commands, handling\n      the bow and arrows safely, respecting the shooting line.<\/li>\n      <li><strong>Equipment<\/strong> &mdash; knowing the parts of the bow and arrow, and\n      how to handle and care for them.<\/li>\n      <li><strong>Shooting Form<\/strong> &mdash; a repeatable setup: stance, grip, nocking,\n      draw and anchor.<\/li>\n      <li><strong>Shot Execution<\/strong> &mdash; a full, controlled shot: aiming, a\n      relaxed release and follow&#8209;through.<\/li>\n      <li><strong>Scoring<\/strong> &mdash; reading a target face, scoring a round, and\n      basic tournament etiquette.<\/li>\n    <\/ul>\n\n    <p style=\"margin-top:1.1rem\">Awards are given at the end of weeks 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7.\n    Shooting Form and Shot Execution each span two weeks, because those skills build across\n    two sessions before an archer has shown the whole thing.
