Thanks to Chris Keebler for re-invigorating the NRA/Winchester (http://mqp.nra.org/) Smallbore Rifle  Marksmanship Qualification Shooting Program!

800 Aggregate Smallbore Competition

Scores From January 18th Match

Participants were eagerly awaiting the start of the 2nd “800 Agg. Match” on Jan 18th……and by that I mean that half of the people (Justin & Mark) were coughing so much that the others (namely me…Todd) thought they might have a chance to win!  Of course we had young Andrew there who seemed extremely tired from a hard day at school and this shooter (Todd) could have sworn he heard him snoring at various times from his prone position mat.  The 4 rounds went by in relatively quick and orderly fashion thanks to our coughing Range Safety Officers (Justin & Mark).  After the final shot was taken….usually by Joe who claimed that he had forgotten how to shoot (reminder….he is ever so close to completing his Distinguished Expert qualification), the shooters tidied up the range and headed for the clubhouse main room to enjoy a beverage and tally up the scores.  As you can see below, Justin “I can cough as much as I want and still win” Schildt won the match with a 785.  He was closely followed by his son Andrew “I am tired, this school thing is exhausting…however I can still beat most everybody” Schildt who shot a sleepy 779.  Mark “I can cough louder than Justin if I have to” Harvill came in 3rd with a 757.  And then there was Todd “someday I will not finish last” Thompson with a 721.  Joe “I seem to have forgotten how to shoot” Castanzo did not complete all 4 rounds and Frank (I am sorry I forgot your last name) finished all 4 rounds, but is new to smallbore so was given a break.

Noticeably missing was last month’s winner Greg Stanko with a record score of 790 last month who was apparently home with the sniffles….Jim Bartlett who came in 2nd last month with a 781 could not make this month’s match.  And Chris Keebler, leader of this very “interesting” bunch of folks, is still sitting on the 30 Day Disabled List while his arm heals up from surgery.

We had a great time both shooting and discussing deep and meaningful things (i.e. how many concussions have we each had in the past or currently, where to find big Birch wood limbs that are still green, etc.) after the match while enjoying age appropriate beverages!!

The adult smallbore group received permission from the LPRGC Board of Directors to start a series of competition matches for Smallbore Shooters (Club Members Only) to participate in a monthly basis from December 2017 through March 2018.

  • Location: Indoor Range (New)
  • When: 3rd Thursday of the Month (December through March)
  • Time: 6:30pm to 9:30pm

The matches will be an “800 Aggregate Competition” consisting of 4 rounds of shooting at the NRA 50′ Rifle Target (A-17).  Each round will have unlimited sighters and two shots per bull for Score, a total of 20 scored shots (2 shots per bull).  Single load and any sight can be used.

Round #1

  • 3 minute preparation period
  • 20 minutes per round to complete your 20 shots for Score
  • Replace targets

Round #2, #3 and #4

  • 1 minute preparation period
  • 20 minutes per round to complete your 20 shots for Score
  • Replace targets

Targets will be scored at the end of the match while participants relax in the LPRGC Clubhouse and either talk about how great they did or how great they could have done!  There will more than likely be refreshments available……

General Info

This is a year-round activity .22 caliber rimfire rifle program for adults. Qualification shooting is the ideal way to develop and build shooting proficiency by progressing through each skill level, from Pro-Marksman through Distinguished Expert. During each shooting session, you will fire at appropriate targets and score those targets toward achievement of the next skill level. Each skill level requires 10 targets of 5 rounds per target that achieve a specific number of points per target depending upon the skill level. Various skill levels require firing from prone, sitting, kneeling and standing positions. Our Program Director keeps an accurate record of each shooter’s designation and issues patches, skill rockers, pins, medals and certificates as the participant achieves the next level of proficiency.

The adult smallbore program will meet the first Thursday of every month from 6:30-9:30pm on the Indoor Range.  No pre-registration is required – come on out and bring out your.22 rifles!

All rifles and all sight setup’s are welcome!

Long Range Smallbore will resume on March 27 at 5pm on the 100yd range.  These events are monthly on the 4th Tuesday of the month.  Test your skills at longer distances!

All Smallbore events are open to all members.  Guests are not permitted.
