2026-27 Hunting & Trapping Digest

There are changes to the rules, seasons and bag limits every year.  Check out the highlights of these changes on page 3 of the Hunting & Trapping Digest.  Also check the section of the digest dedicated to the species you will be hunting.

Hunter/Trapper Education Classes

Pennsylvania now offers two ways to obtain the certification you need to purchase a hunting license.  There are the traditional courses that have been taught at LPRGC for many years.  There are also full independent study courses, that can be completed totally on-line.

TRADITIONAL HTE COURSES TAUGHT AT LPRGC

The following are the traditional Hunter/Trapper Educations courses taught at LPRGC. There is no fee to take the traditional course. These courses are for the most part taught by live instructors in a classroom style, with some independent study. Students must be at least 11 years of age to take these courses.

The goal of the course is to learn to hunt safely.  The course begins with an introduction to modern firearms and ammunition; how they function, how to safely handle, store, transport and maintain them.  Then the course looks at other means of hunting, such as muzzle loading rifles and archery.  It also covers subjects such as hunting from tree stands and turkey hunting, which each have certain specific safety concerns.  The course teaches some highlights of PA game law and how to interact with the PGC.

The links for these courses can be found further down this page.

2026 Course Dates

Due to scheduling conflicts with other clubs, there will only be one course at LPRGC in 2026.  That course occurred in June.  The course that normally occurs in October will not be offered this year.  See “TRADITIONAL COURSES TAUGHT NEARBY” further down the page for live courses taught at other clubs.

It’s also a good idea to work through the questions and answers found at the end of each chapter. They are a good representation of the questions that will be on the final exam. You can get them here.
